Removing Foreign Criminals from Canada
the Canadian Government introduced the Faster Removal of Foreign Criminals Act
to speed up the removal of foreign criminals from Canada. Today, we are seeing
positive action as a result of such tough on crime measures.
On July 22, 2014, the Government announced the removal from Canada of 20
members of a human trafficking criminal organization.
This criminal ring, which operated in the
Hamilton area, recruited their victims from Hungary with promises of a better
life. The victims were then forced to work illegally, live in disgusting
conditions without enough food and were intimidated and attacked repeatedly.
22 members of this criminal organization have
been convicted of crimes relating to human trafficking and 20 of these
individuals have been deported from Canada.
'We are sending a clear signal
that there is no room in Canada for those who are committing the heinous and
despicable crime of human trafficking.'
— Steven Blaney, Public Safety Minister
Our message to foreign criminals is clear: Your
presence in Canada will not be tolerated.
